Picture Grocery List
This hands-on activity helps your child build early literacy skills by creating a picture-based grocery list together.
Let's Go!
What you need:
Grocery store flyers
Scissors
Glue
Paper
Crayons
What to do:
Make a grocery list, leaving space beside each item for a picture.
Look at any grocery flyers you have and find pictures of items on your list.
Cut the pictures out of the flyer and glue them beside the proper item.
Do It Together
Let your child help make your grocery list by adding pictures. They can add to your list or you can help them make their own.

Use the items on your list that your child can easily recognize in the flyer and at the store. They can add their own writing to the list as well.
Why?
By using pictures, your child will be able to help make a list they can read in the store with you.

Adding their own writing and seeing yours will help them understand that writing is important in getting things done. If they can add some suggestions to the list, they will feel like they’ve helped, which will encourage them to do it more.
